Large Format Film Portrait Services
Besides normal headshots and portraits, I offer large format portraits under previous consultation and complete analysis of your needs. The consultation for these services is mandatory to custom tailor an experience and results to your needs.
This service includes a unique portrait, shoot on 8x10 high quality film and digitized at high resolution and print under demand.
Currently no other photographer in Toronto offers these services commercially because of its complexity, logistic and more artistic value than possible business output.
This service is a love letter and respect to my clients and a way to create something that only a minority has ever done.
Film photography is getting more and more popular, it has a unique look that digital cameras can’t replicate. We will use 8x10 film, a film of size that no digital camera can match today.
This unique experience and results are the perfect gift for friend or a family member.
Price
Because of the workflow and difficulty to obtain high quality film, the session has a greater non refundable deposit, the session can’t get re-scheduled by the client and we need to discuss how many slides of film you want to use. The deposit includes five shots and for any extra five slides the client needs to pay them before the session. Any session that desires more than 20 slides needs a minimum of a month ahead appointment.
During the session I will capture high quality digital images that will be included as well in the final product. These images are used to help me compose, check the light is correct, and boost your confidence showing that we are going to create excellent memories.
After the film gets developed, you will receive a gallery so you can pick if you want any retouched and if desired, a print of them. The next table explains prices, for more information please reach out to me for a consultation.
Session price - $1000, includes five 8x10 color or black and white film. This is non-refundable and it covers the film, preparation of the film, development, 3+ hour session and the un-retouched digital gallery. For on location expect an extra $1000.
Extra five color or black and white film - $1000 (this needs to be paid before the session, and a exact number has to be provided as film needs to be pre-loaded before the session, this is not refundable)
Image retouch - $300 per image
Image print - You can order prints in my sharing platform service. There, the images have good quality but not as good as if I contact local services in the city. One is convenience for you, the other is more quality.
Example
You want to book a session, that includes 15 shoots, 10 black and white and 5 in color. This will require a $3000 non refundable cost to cover the film and the session. This will need to paid upfront.
The day of the session, to make the right composition for the film, we take 200 images with my medium format digital system and 15 slides of film.
After the session, you receive a gallery with the images, without watermark. The gallery contains a variable number of pictures but should be around 10% of the captures, in this case 20 images.
You receive a gallery with the 15 slides. Because of nature of film, they can present some flaws, expect 50% high quality images.
You decide to retouch 2 digital, 5 film and print 3 of the film.
This will put the total cost of the session on $3000 (session + film), $2100 (image retouch), $9000+(printing with a local lab on larger size). That puts the total cost of this premium large format service at a starting price of $14100. The final cost will be different if you desire, for example, go with a metal print.
For that amount, you would get twenty unretouched high quality digital pictures, fifteen film scans (bw or color), seven retouches and three prints.
