Most Toronto studios sell packages: you pay for four images before you know whether you want four images. I price the session and the images separately, so a single strong headshot costs $200 all in and you are never buying frames to hit a package minimum.

A typical booking lands between $200 and $400. Teams and repeat sitters are quoted separately, and the rate drops per person as the group grows.

Which headshot do you actually need

The word covers four different jobs, and they are not shot the same way. The lighting, the framing, the wardrobe, and the expression all change depending on what the image has to do.

• Business headshots for one person booking for themselves: consultants, realtors, lawyers, advisors, and founders whose own name is the brand.
• Corporate headshots for a team page, where consistency across everyone matters more than any single frame.

What happens in a session

There is no set time limit. Sessions average around two hours, and they end when we have the picture, not when a clock runs out. You do not need to have been photographed before, and being uncomfortable in front of a camera is the normal starting position rather than a problem.

I shoot tethered, so the images come up on a screen as we go. You see what is working and what is not while there is still time to change it. That single detail is what most people mention afterwards, because it turns the session from something being done to you into something you are steering.

You leave having seen your own frames, and you pick your finals from a proof gallery rather than from memory.

What to wear

• Solid, mid to deep colours. They hold their shape on screen. Bright white blows out and busy patterns pull the eye off your face.
• Necklines that finish cleanly. Crew, collar, or a simple V. Anything fussy competes with your jaw at this framing.
• Two or three options. One notch more formal than your daily wear, one notch less, and one you actually like wearing.
• A layer. A blazer or jacket gives a second look without a full change and reads as more senior in the same frame.
• Skip fresh haircuts. A week of growth photographs better than a day.

How fast you get your images

Proofs are available the same day. Once you choose your finals, retouched images come back within 5 business days. If you need them sooner, 24 hour rush is +$100, and I have turned a headshot around on a Sunday for a Monday press release before.

Same-week sessions are usually available. Weekends run on demand.

You see every frame in the proof gallery. The files you receive are the finals you choose, fully retouched, in high resolution and web resolution. Raw files are not released, which is standard for headshot work.
